Predictions for the 146th British Open in 2017

The Open is here, starting tomorrow (Thursday July 20th) the best players in the world will be teeing it up at Royal Birkdale for the 146th British Open Championship.

The third major of the 2017 year has many contenders for the Claret Jug; no-one has showed dominance of late. Dustin Johnson was the hottest golfer until his injury before the Masters, yet I can't see him winning this major anytime soon anyway.

This Major takes more than just playing well, it takes a certain hopeful or prayerful humility to win; it takes someone who's paid their dues or can fully accept a gift from nowhere. Either way Major goes to the golfer who wants it the most and has a steady game.

My prediction this year is Justin Rose will win. He's ranked number 12 in the world and has already won a U.S. Open at Merion in 2013. I believe he's got the hunger, has paid his dues to win the oldest and most prestigious golf tournament in the world, and has the steady game to make it happen.

Others that will contend closely are: Shane Lowry, John Rahm, Zach Johnson, Russel Knox, Phil Mickelson, and Matt Kuchar.

The dark horse to win: Cameron Smith.

Whoever wins, I'm looking forward to watching and following this years 3rd Major.

The Majors now have their own mobile apps, this has provided incredible viewing for us, the fans.

Who is your favorite to win the Open?
